Three types of scanners available are handheld, suitable for small images; flatbed, used for large art; and 35mm slide scanners for scanning 35mm transparencies. Scanners add interest to documents; the type chosen will depend on the type of computers the school has, the budget available and the type of scanning that most generally needs to be done. Most scanners can save scanned images directly to the hard drive if there is room, but the larger the image, the more memory is needed to store it. Color images take up even more disk space.
