I cannot speak for everyone but, here is my review: I have been searching for 2 years ( consumer reports, product updates,friends, businesses etc) to find a wireless color printer that can do what I need and canon came thru with flying colors! The best feature is the wireless faxing. Canon customer support if amazing...fast and took care of a simple issue ( which was operator error not the unit) in minutes...good bye HP...no more ink jet! Super quiet and faster printing than what they stated. The quality of my printing is superior! NO skipped prints even on copies...this baby does not miss a beat. I put 55 pages in to copy...all pages came out in order and perfect...scanner: I scan reciepts into this unit it has not turned or grabbed the thin flimsy receipt like other scanners do...then I tried 60 multiple sizes at one time...still did not skip a beat and all were straight... Before returning the Brother I purchased a Canon MF8380CDW. I did side by side comparisons of the print quality and there is no doubt the Canon produces much better output. I did have to tweak one setting in the printer driver to get the best result (under the Quality section, set Halftones to Resolution), but this was only to improve light gray scale reproduction. The clarity of text and images is much better than the Brother regardless of the driver settings. The Canon is also a bit smaller, quieter, and doesn't flicker the lights in my office like the Brother did. I have not had any jams with the Canon, but I haven't printed envelopes with it yet. The only weakness of the Canon compared to the brother is the user interface. The Brother's user interface is definitely better, but I was able to get the Canon up and running without difficulty. Works better w 64 bits windows 7 for me. Can copy 2 sides. Very easy setup. not too noisy, great energy saver mode, print speeds ok, the paper tray contained within unit and not sticking out. Sits under my PC table. Feel free to ask anything, bought for 499. Please be careful how you connect to your router. You can use wire or wifi but DONT use both, otherwise the printer would stop working. Also it doesnt have a email link to send to printer, so if you are looking for e print, canon is still behind. Update after 7 months: The scanner works great, gives color PDF's or Jpegs that looks good. Legal is the max size you can scan. You can scan from PC or printer. I found scanning from PC faster. The best part is that it actually fits in my Targus computer case WITH my laptop. It weighs only 2-3 pds, and runs off USB power---no converter brick to haul around. Scans are sharp and fast. The automatic settings work very well for nearly all typical originals (old photos, business letters, receipts, etc.). Despite some shortcomings, the price and exceptional portability may make this series of scanners the choice for scanning books---because books which need to be scanned are often non-circulating items in libraries or archives. SHORTCOMINGS Unfortunately, the particular design of this scanner (and all other LED-based scanners) is that (unlike most fat desktop scanners) it cannot scan 3D objects. Any portion of your document or image which is not in absolute contact with the glass patten will be very blurry. I'm not an expert when it comes to judging image quality-so while I'm giving the LiDE210 a great score, I'm not 100% sure if it's image results are as good, worse, or better than comparable relatively high end consumer scanners. I can say the results look good, and so far look the same (to me) as a high end HP model from a few years ago that I use at work. I was shocked by how small the scanner's box is-in fact I thought maybe I'd accidentally ordered something that would only scan photos. Amazed again when I pulled the scanner out of the box...although it accepts full size papers (and it looks like legal sized too, although I haven't tested any yet) it's easily less than half the size of my HP from work. While it still takes up a decent amount of space on a desk (since it has to be big enough for the scanner bed to accept full size papers), it still somehow feels like it fits in better than older scanners. There can't be much of a market for straight scanners anymore because my local Staples has on display dozens of all-in-one printer/scanners and zero straight scanners. Pro: I like that this scanner is small, low power, and uncluttered, but I won't dwell on these points as they have been discussed by other reviewers. Quality as far as I can tell from my limited use is good. I saw a detailed review of this scanner that concluded the quality was excellent. Speed is no problem, with no lamp warmup and the preview scan is quick (10 sec). Cons hardware: As I now know (but did not know when I bought this scanner), all low power LED scanners with CIS sensors like the Cannon Lide family, have a big, big drawback. I am replacing an old $600 HP scanner with this and am very happy with the improvement so far. I am using a dual boot XP 32bit / Vista 64bit configuration with 3.1gig amd x2 cpu and 4gig ram.So far it works perfectly under Vista 64bit. I downloaded the appropriate drivers and software and did not use the CD. Canon warns that it may not work with another USB cable, I tried a 6ft Belkin and it worked fine. The HP would not work with anything other than the short one they sent. The software and the front panel buttons work with no problems. I've had little problem learning the software without using the manual which is a good indication of how easy it is if you've some experience already. It scans negatives far better than the HP ever did. The photo scans are far better also. I like the software touch ups so far, but need a lot more time with it to have a final thought there. It was simple to set up and the results are better than I expected. Photos work much better than my HP 4 in 1. It will also scan negatives, though not quite as well as slides. It was hard to find a scanner that would scan slides and work on a Mac. This does both very well. My favorite way is through the ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5.5 image manipulation program that comes with the scanner. To access this, Open ArcSoft, then select [File] and then click on [Acquire] to access the ScanGear menu that allows up to 1200 dpi for paper scanning and up to 9600 dpi for film and a host of other manipulation choices for scanning which is way more than necessary. A good choice is up to 600 dpi for paper and no more than 1600 dpi for film. Higher dpi scans take a "LOT" longer to scan. However, remember digital scanning is nothing like print film photography. Rarely does a color scan look totally correct. So, after the image is scanned, one may need to change it. An easy way is to click on [Enhance] and then [Auto Enhance] after the scan is complete.
